Fyodorov – founder of Russian Cosmism
When I first started reading “The Philosophy of the Common Task” by Nikolai Fyodorov I got the sense that the enthusiasts for “transhumanism” had interpreted him incorrectly as a source for the idea of an end point of technological progress.
This often happens when people who belong in the materialist episteme of our modern culture try to draw conclusions from poetry and spiritual commentaries – the simplify and distort them by taking them literally. Now I’m not so sure about that first impression of mine…but I am left with the question – what use can be made of the ideas of this first Russian Cosmist in our present day situation?
